FAQs

Meetings & Lunch Catering

+ Is there a minimum group size?

Yes, 8 people.

+ What about dishes and cutlery?

Prices include all serving supplies, disposable dishes and cutlery. All our disposables - paper plates and bowls, cutlery and napkins - are compostable and biodegradable. If you would prefer non-disposable, we are happy to supply china, flatware and glassware for an additional cost (please contact us for details).

+ Is there a delivery charge?

We charge a $30 delivery fee for all orders under $300.

+ What is included in your coffee service?

We set up an urn of fresh-brewed coffee, and two carafes of hot water for tea. We put out a wide assortment of herbal and black teas, as well as sugar, sugar substitute and dairy creamer. Disposable cups and stir sticks are included. Non-disposable cups and spoons are available on request.

+ What about a gratuity?

Some caterers may charge a mandatory gratuity, but we strive to earn ours - and we are grateful when you recognize our efforts.

+ Can you accommodate special diets?

Yes, we are happy to work with you. Let us know what you need.

+ Can you do gluten-free meals?

To be truly gluten-free, you must have no gluten in your kitchen; as a full service caterer, we do use wheat products. While we cannot guarantee zero cross-contamination, we make all reasonable efforts. We are happy to provide a variety of no-gluten-added options, which we find accommodates most people’s needs.

+ Can you do custom menus?

Absolutely! Contact us, we’ll talk.

+ What about delivery times?

Typically we arrive 20-30 minutes before you want the food available for your guests. This gives us time to load in and set up.

+ What about picking up the supplies afterwards?

Typically, we can come back the next day or make arrangements that best meet your needs. We ask that you do not dispose of any serving trays; we will collect, sanitize, and re-use them until we recycle them. We are committed to leaving as small an environmental footprint as possible.

+ What about any leftover food?

You are welcome to take home any food that is leftover. We just ask that we get our non-disposable serving trays back on pick-up.

+ What is your Cancellation Policy?

For smaller events (8 - 25 guests), we require a minimum of one week cancellation notice to receive your full refund. For larger events (26 and over), we do not offer a full refund but the deposit may be used for future events.

Catering for Weddings

+ What types of service styles do you offer?

Buffet style is the most common, and that is how our three menu packages are priced. Family Style service will be priced based on the size of your wedding. Head Table services are an extra option.

+ What type of meal service do you offer for the Head Table and key family tables?

We offer Family Style service for special tables, at an additional charge. Family Style is like a family dinner with serving dishes of food, to share among the table members. This includes staff to set out the serving dishes, and top them up as needed.

+ How many wedding guests can you accommodate?

250 is our maximum.

+ Is it possible to taste some of the dishes before we make a decision?

We are happy to offer tasting at $50 per person. You can choose 2 mains, 2 sides and 2 salads. Please note, we are unable to offer tastings of Roast Beef or Beef Wellington because these can not be made as single servings. Contact us to make arrangements.

+ Can you accommodate special diets? (gluten-free, dairy-free, allergen-free)

Yes, we are happy to work with you on specific diets. However, to be truly gluten or allergen-free, you must have none of these products in your kitchen; as a full service caterer, we do use these products. While we cannot guarantee zero cross-contamination, we make all reasonable efforts. We are happy to provide a variety of no-gluten-or-allergen-added options, which we find accommodates most people’s needs.

+ What is included in your pricing?

Delivery (within Saskatoon); set-up and maintenance of the buffet; linens for the buffet table; disposable plates, napkins and cutlery; and clearing away of the buffet.

+ How much time do you need to set up?

Typically, we arrive an hour before dinner service to load in and set up the buffet.

+ Do you need any space on-site for food preparation?

We don’t cook on site, so a kitchen space isn’t necessary. However, we do need a designated area away from guests and close to the buffet table, to assemble salads and hold additional food. Access to a refrigerator for desserts and/or midnight lunch is appreciated.

+ Are your disposables environmentally friendly?

Yes! Everything is biodegradable; the plates and cutlery are compostable.

+ Do you offer china and flatware rentals?

Sorry, we do not offer rentals off-site (The Avenue Room).

+ What about clearing the guest dishes?

We are happy to provide staff to clear guest dishes at an additional charge. We suggest 1 staff person per 50 guest and charge for each staff person we provide. This would include scraping and packing the dishes back into rental crates. If these dishes come from Fresh Dish Catering, we will take them with us at the end of the evening.

+ What happens to the extra food?

You are welcome to any of the leftovers. We just ask that you provide your own containers. If you do not want the leftovers, we donate them to the SWITCH program (you can find out more about them on our Community page).

+ Do you provide bartenders?

Yes, for an additional fee we can offer bartenders with the required Serve It Right certification for basic bar service - highballs, wine and beer. If you are looking for something more splashy, we are happy to make a referral.

+ Do you offer catering outside of Saskatoon?

Absolutely; we’ve done many weddings at small acreages around Saskatoon, and in places like Prince Albert National Park. With experience, we’ve found that certain items do not travel long distances quite as well. We can discuss menu options. Also, there is a charge for delivery based on distance and staffing requirements.

+ Can we tentatively reserve a date with you while we are considering our options?

Yes. We will give you First Right of Refusal if we receive another request for that date. Once the contract is signed, it is yours.

+ Do you require a deposit?

Yes, we require 25% deposit, based on your estimated guest count.

+ Is there a contract?

Yes. After we have discussed the details, we will email you a contract to be signed on-line.

+ When do we have to provide you with final guest counts and menu selection?

30 days before your big day :)

+ What about a gratuity or additional service charges?

Some caterers may charge a mandatory gratuity, but we strive to earn ours - and we are grateful when you recognize our efforts.

Wedding Cakes

+ What flavours do you make?

We can do almost anything from beautiful, rich chocolate cake to rose petal buttercream. If you have an idea, just let us know.

+ Do you make gluten-free cake?

Yes. We do have a small number of GF cake recipes that work well, but it does limit your options. We have a wonderful carrot cake that does very well GF.

+ Do you use real butter in your buttercream?

Absolutely!

+ If I have an idea, can you create it?

We would do our best! Certainly a great starting point is sharing with us photos of cakes you like.

+ How many people can your biggest cake feed?

We can do a four-tier cake which is 12 inches on the bottom, and 6 inches on the top, and feeds approximately 175 people or more. Another option is to go with a cutting cake, and then offer assorted cupcakes or a dessert bar for your guests.

+ I found my dream cake photo - can you make it for me?

We have done this many times, and we feel confident in our abilities. Do keep in mind that cake decorating is an art; some variation may occur.

In-House Chef Catering

+ What is the largest group you can accommodate?

We offer plated, sit-down meals in your home for groups up to 25.

+ Is full dinner table service included in the price?

Full dinner table service, for groups from a minimum of 8 to 15, is available at no extra charge. For groups of 16 to 25, we charge an extra $150 for the extra staffing needs.

+ Do you need my kitchen, and for how long?

Normally we arrive about 90 minutes before your guests are to be served, and we would need full access to your kitchen. We finish the menu on-site.

+ How does this work - china, pots and pans, clean-up, etc?

The prices include us providing everything - pots, serving utensils, china, cutlery. When we leave, we take everything with us and wash the surfaces of your kitchen, leaving it as clean as we can. If you prefer to use your own plates and/or cutlery, we are happy to serve on those. However, we can’t risk washing them.

+ Do you include wine pairing?

We can offer suggestions for wine pairing at no extra cost for your chosen menu. We cannot provide wine because we are not licensed.

+ What if there is leftover food?

We are happy to leave it with you. Please provide us with containers.

Cocktail Party Appetizers

+ Do you have a minimum number of people you will serve appetizers to?

The minimum is 25.

+ Are cocktail plates and napkins included?

Yes, we bring disposable plates and napkins. We can bring china and linens for an added rental charge.

+ Is there a delivery charge?

For orders under $300, there is a delivery charge of $30. For orders over $300 delivery within Saskatoon are included. Outside of Saskatoon we will need to discuss the extra charges.

+ What is the Full Service Option?

Short answer: This option entails us bringing all the assorted appetizer "parts" for your menu, putting them together and arranging them beautifully on our serving trays and refilling them throughout your event for up to 2 hours (or our servers can circulate the appetizers around for your guests to enjoy for an additional staffing charge).

Longer answer: The Full Service option includes all the staffing needed to bring in the supplies, assemble and arrange the serving trays, setting up the serving table including linens and other food display needs, and of course cleanup of the work area and serving table. All you have to provide is an area where we can assemble, heat and arrange the appetizers for you. We can bring in a small oven to heat the hot appetizers if needed so the "work" area need not be a kitchen.
